Defence Minister A.K. Antony has said his Ministry is ready to start a second phase project of BEML Limited at Kanjikode if the State government gives the remaining 625 acres of land promised earlier. Presiding over the inauguration of the first phase of BEML unit at Kanjikode near here on Sunday, the Defence Minister said, "if the State government provided land and other infrastructure facilities, more Central projects will come to Kerala." He complimented Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Industries Minister Elamaram Karim for providing all help in setting up a BEML unit in a record time of 18 months.

Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said the State is embarking on the biggest capital investment in the last 25 years in the current financial year after gaining in confidence from the results produced by the Industries Department-owned public sector units (PSUs) in the last few years.
Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has called for a consensus of opinion on development of basic infrastructure for industrial ventures so as to attract private investment. Speaking after laying the foundation stone for a Coir Composite Board factory under the public sector Foam Mattings India Limited at Coir Park in Kanichukulangara here on Friday, Dr. Isaac said basic facilities like road connectivity, and not just industrial parks, were essential to attract investment.
